Broward Center for the Performing Arts
The Broward Center for the Performing Arts—often referred to simply as the Broward Center—is a premier multi-venue performing arts complex located in Fort Lauderdale’s historic Sailboat Bend neighborhood, along the north bank of the New River. Since opening in 1991 on a 5.5-acre site, the Center has been a cornerstone of the Riverwalk Arts and Entertainment District and a driving force in the revitalization of downtown Fort Lauderdale.
Designed by renowned architect Benjamin C. Thompson, the Broward Center houses several state-of-the-art theaters that host a wide range of performances, from opera, ballet, Broadway musicals, and symphonic concerts to plays, lectures, and community events. The Center collaborates with acclaimed organizations including the Symphony of the Americas, Florida Grand Opera, Miami City Ballet, the Concert Association of Florida, and Gold Coast Jazz. Through its partnership with Broadway Across America, the Center also brings nationally touring Broadway productions to South Florida audiences.
Recognized as one of the most attended theaters in the United States, the Broward Center has earned global accolades. In 2007, it ranked fourth in the world by Venues Today and seventh worldwide by Pollstar based on ticket sales.
By 2011, the venue welcomed more than 700,000 guests annually across 700+ events, underscoring its role as a cultural hub for the region. That same year, the Center announced an ambitious expansion project, scheduled to begin in spring 2012, further cementing its reputation as one of South Florida’s most vibrant and influential performing arts institutions.
