With four Top 10 albums in the U.S., Japan, and U.K., and headlining performances across 20 countries, Henry has captivated critics and fans alike. Her accolades include the Soul Train Award for Best Traditional Jazz Performance, “Best New Jazz Artist” by HMV Japan, and “Best Solo Musician” by the Miami New Times. Most recently, she was named one of Symphonic Distribution’s “Eight Black Artists Making Waves in 2024.”
Performer Bio
Since her debut in 2004, Nicole Henry has become one of the most celebrated vocalists in jazz. Known for her powerful emotional resonance, impeccable phrasing, and dynamic vocal range, she interprets the American Songbook, contemporary jazz, popular standards, blues, and original works with authenticity and heart. Her artistry has been hailed by The Wall Street Journal, El País, Jazz Times, Essence, The Japan Times, and more.
Her latest album, Time to Love Again, reached #4 on the U.S. jazz radio chart, staying in the Top 40 for 20 weeks, and climbed to #6 on the U.K.’s Sweet Rhythms chart. The album continues to enjoy international play, including on SiriusXM’s Real Jazz and Watercolors.
Henry’s career highlights include headlining shows in cities such as New York, Tokyo, Madrid, Moscow, Paris, Shanghai, Los Angeles, Chicago, Las Vegas, Boston, San Francisco, and Miami. She has graced prestigious venues like Blue Note, Jazz at Lincoln Center, Birdland, Dimitriou’s Jazz Alley, Blues Alley, The Smith Center, Kravis Center, and Feinstein’s.
She has collaborated with acclaimed artists including Kirk Whalum, Julian Lage, John Clayton, Gerald Clayton, and has shared the stage with ensembles like the Duke Ellington Orchestra, the Henry Mancini Institute Orchestra, Pasadena Pops, and Michael Feinstein.
In addition to her music career, Henry has earned critical acclaim in theater, starring in productions such as The Bodyguard, The Color Purple (as Shug Avery), Smokey Joe’s Café, and the world premiere of A Wonderful World, a new musical based on the life of Louis Armstrong.
A Pennsylvania native, Henry studied cello, ballet, and voice before earning a Communications and Theatre degree from the University of Miami. She has also appeared in national commercials and voiceover work. Beyond the stage, she is dedicated to arts education and philanthropy, serving with organizations such as Miami Music Project, YoungArts, and the Miami Children’s Initiative. Her contributions to the arts and community have been recognized with proclamations of “Nicole Henry Day” from both the City of Miami Beach and Miami-Dade County.
