Before the era of the War Brides came the “picture brides.” Our upcoming exhibit invites you to discover their story and the vital role these women played in shaping the early Japanese American community.

Between 1907 and 1924, thousands of Japanese women journeyed to the United States to marry men they knew only through exchanged photographs. Through courage, resilience, and determination, they helped build strong families and vibrant immigrant communities that laid the foundation for future generations.
